Sick baby

Riley has been sick this weekend. Poor baby hasn't been able to keep anything down since Friday. This is our first time to deal with this kind of sickness. It's been quite interesting...and full of stories. If you're easily squemish, you might want to skip this post!

Saturday was the beginning with the 6am feeding ending with Riley replaying a scheme from "The Ex-or-cist". I yelled and woke up DH - not the nicest way to wake up your husband! He tended to Riley while I tried to clean off the rocker. The remaining feedings were more of the same. Poor baby, you could tell she was not feeling so hot. She continued to eat, but just couldn't keep it down. By last night I thought we were through it.

Riley and I were on the couch playing for a bit before she went to bed. I was still being quite gingerly about movement - a side effect of being puked on 5 times that day. She layed down on my chest and the the "Ex-or-cist" returned with avengence. It got all over her pajamas, completely down my back, down my front too (all the way to my belly button), the back cushion of the couch, and completely covered a throw pillow. Gross to say the least. I stood up and asked DH to take care of the couch. I walked into the bathroom with Riley and just stared in the mirror not knowing where to start the cleaning process. I was dripping, and she was stinky. We got cleaned up and Riley went to bed an hour later. She even slept through most of the night. She's much better today.

In fact, I believe we are through the piling stage and have moved to the lower end. Ha! Riley is playing again today, so I know she's feeling better. While playing today on her jumper, she got quiet. Then there was "thunder". When I pulled her out, I could see what she had been working on. To the changing table we went. It was messy, to say the least - all the way to her knees! I decided to put her in the bath, but needed to get her pajamas soaking. So, I carried the naked baby into the bathroom to put her clothes in the sink. I guess I had disrupted riley's work earlier, because now the front of my nightgown was soaked. And it wasn't puke.

There I stood in the bathroom with the naked, covered in poo baby while I was wet too. So we both got in the bath. Quite a morning! I'm tired :)

I really do love being a mommy. This weekend has been tiring, but I'm so happy to be doing "my job" - taking care of Riley. One day, I'll get to tell her this story and laugh with her. I'm already laughing about it (and I bet my mom and MIL will too).

Chasing a truck

On my way to work last week, I saw a truck with a big white sticker in the back window. I didn't think too much of it because it looked like all the other "my kid is in xyz sports" stickers and I live in soccer momville anyway. I see these stickers all the time.

This one was a pic of a volleyball with some writing and dates. The volleyball was about 4-5" in diameter, so it was hard to miss. The writing was quite small in comparison. As I was sitting at a stoplight, my eyes wandered over to the sticker and I noted the name - first, middle, and last. I thought to myself that having that info on a car could be dangerous in parking lots and such... Then I saw the date...actually two dates.

The light turned green and all the cars were moving again. Now I wanted to read the sticker. Now I realized there was a saying on it as well. Now the truck was moving much faster than me and I was stuck behind a slow car.

I wanted to see if the sticker was for an angel. I think the dates were both in the same year, so maybe they were just really into volleyball. But maybe it was another mom or dad just holding to their baby's memory. I chased the truck for a few stoplights, but never could clearly make out the saying or dates. I'm still wondering about that sticker.

I realize that being an angel mom has completely changed how I see the world...and somedays I'm okay with that...somedays I'm better because of it.

Look mommy, both hands!

It's funny how the simplest things are huge milestones for babies. Or, at least, every new thing that Riley conquers is amazing to me! I'm sure I'm not alone in this, but it is funny how easily amused I am by her. Really I just wanted to capture the time frame of this milestone, so here I am to bore you :)

Riley had taken to using both hands now. It's fun to watch her concentrate so hard on something and finally be able to pick it up. Before he was just scooting things around and scooping things up with one hand.

A complete fool of myself

I am completely willing to make a fool of myself at any time just to get Riley to giggle. I will gurgle, growl, baaa, ribbit, or blubber. I will twist and contort my face into a million different expressions until I find one that makes her laugh. I can't even imagine how crazy that must look to anyone else. When we are in public, I still make crazy sounds and faces, but in a much smaller scale. I'll whisper a growl to her and scrunch up my face just a bit for a quick second. She knows her mommy Is there purely for her entertainment. I even downplay the faces slightly when daddy is home with us.

But, when I'm home alone with riley (or even secluded in a room) out come the crazy faces and weird noises. Anything goes when it come to getting a giggle. It's truly the best sound on earth. I hope each and every one of you gets to experience this. I hope each of you are blessed with this giggle in your lives.
