Pick up your feet over railroad tracks

So everyone has their little superstitions or even qwerky little things. This is one of mine...actually it was my grandmother's. You are suppose to pick your feet up off the floorboard of the car whenever you pass over railroad tracks. Why? you might ask. So you don't lose your boyfriend (husband now) of course! When I was younger and VERY into boys, i was a bit fanatical about this. Especially when in the car with grandma because she practiced it too. After all, she was the one to teach me this valuable practice.

I hadn't practiced this in quite a few years now, but for some reason I picked up my feet as I passed over RR tracks this morning. I'm not sure if it was out of habit or if my grandma "pulled" them up herself.

Whatever the reason, I smiled. It made me think of her, and although I miss her greatly this warmed my heart. I immediately was comforted by the fact that the boys are with her. But then, I'm not sure if it's her being there for them or the other way around that soothes my soul. Either way, this was a good way to start the day.

That is really sweet.

We used to lick a finger and "hold the roof up" whenever we drove under a bridge.

I remember going over railroad tracks and lifting my feet as well as touching a screw. Don't know what that was about.

Another one of them was to hold your breath as you drove by a cemetery. Don't do that one anymore or I'd pass out from holding it so long!

It's funny how those superstitions can warm your heart. I have my own that bring up fond memories.

I am happy that you find comfort in your boys being with grandma. I feel similar comfort in believing that my daughter is with my mom.

Take care and happy 2010.
